Individuals are carefully transported from the cereal fields of Didima, Argolida to the conservation beds at the grounds of the Institute of Plant Breeding and Phytogenetic Resources where they continue their biological cycle and bear fruit in late spring (new seeds are collected every year)

Deep red colour in the tepals of a Greek tulip
The rare and protected Tulipa rhodopea (Balkan endemic) grows naturally in stony areas of eastern Macedonia and has a deep red colour in its tepals, which differs from the shades of red that other species of Greek tulip have.
